I currently live in Southern California where we barely have seasons, but it still feels way too hot to be thinking about the holiday season… BUT this week is the last chance to order Halloween items from the General Store and get it in time for the holidays (there are some great deals on bulk candy bags… candy corn, anyone?) – so apparently the time has come!
Our Learning Center also just launched all of the new 2019 Halloween items! Misako-san went through and picked out all of the newest and most fun crafts, candy, decorations, stickers, and more! So, check it out 🙂
I don’t know about you, but even if I can’t partake in the trick-or-treating, I still love the excuse to dress up every year. Last year I even won a contest for my costume as a Troll (yes, that’s my real hair sticking way up)! Although I usually try to make my costumes each year, my dad prefers to purchase full pre-made ones. Some of his classics are batman and the giant skunk! But, I know it can be hard to find clothes/costumes that fit foreigners in Japan (I started shopping in the adult section when I was about 11!). So, if you want a specific adult Halloween costume, and you can’t find one that fits in Japan, then check out Party City or any other US costume store, and just use Madi’s ReMailing Service to get it sent you in Japan!
Another Halloween activity that will never get old for me is pumpkin carving 🙂 I love putting on a festive movie (some of my faves are Hocus Pocus, The Nightmare Before Christmas and Young Frankenstein), making myself a cup of hot chocolate or spiced cider, and getting my carve on! One cool tip is that you can save the pumpkin innards, clean all the “guck” off of the seeds, and then you can bake your own pumpkin seeds with whatever seasonings and flavors you like. Now you have an easy, homemade, delicious and healthy snack!
Last year (while watching Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island 🙂 and, admittedly, drinking some pumpkin spice beer instead of my usual hot drink) I created “Jack Skellington” from the Nightmare Before Christmas, my husband Dwayne attempted a spider, and our friends made Spongebob SquarePants and an alien.
Speaking of pumpkin spice… another sign of the seasons here in California is the re-introduction of pumpkin spice everything! If the weather can’t tell us that it’s Fall, then Starbucks certainly can 🙂 So, don’t forget to ‘pumpkin spice’ up your life with a pumpkin spice latte, a pumpkin pie scented candle or some homemade pumpkin bread!
